Halloween is a great time to get creative and turn your home into a ghoulish house of horrors. If you aren’t careful this can be an expensive affair so to save you some much needed money we’ve put together some cheap and inexpensive DIY ideas that will be sure to scare this Halloween.
Chicken wire ghosts
If you have a large garden this can look really effective – take some chicken wire and fashion it into a ghost, something like a woman’s dress works really well for this idea as you can fashion the shape of a long dress without a person in it. Take it one step further and put an actual dress on the ghostly figure for a really scary effect.
Eyes that glow in the dark
Save toilet rolls/kitchen rolls and cut the shape of eyes into them – try to make them as different to each other and as scary as possible. When you have a few put some glow sticks inside and hide them in your bushes/trees etc when it is dark.
You can get really creative with these and the more effort you put in the better they will look. Get some heavy black paper and cut out some scary silhouettes – depending how much you want to scare people you can go for anything from pumpkins to chainsaw wielding madmen! Once your silhouettes are ready tape them to the window and make sure they are well laminated behind to get the desired effect.
A bit of a cliché perhaps, but the possibilities a pumpkin gives you for Halloween décor are pretty much endless. Whether you want to carve them and light them from within, make glow in the dark patterns and leave them outside or even just paint scary pictures on them, a pumpkin is essential for Halloween. Try something original this year to stand out
Haunted houseIf you’re planning on having people inside the house the most effective and inexpensive way of creating an eerie effect is to make it look abandoned. For this all you need to do is throw some white sheets over your large items of furniture, hang some artificial cobwebs from the mirrors and walls and place some black candles/flowers/rotting fruit etc around the house.
